Jott.com

Have you ever wished you could send yourself a text message or email reminder but didn’t have access to your computer?  Jott.com is a free web based service that converts your voice into emails, text messages, reminders, lists and appointments all from your phone. You can also set-up messages by typing directly into a web based form on the Jott website. I’ve been using this service for about a month now and I must say the voice recognition is fantastic.  Below are some of the specific features of Jott:

Send Reminders To Yourself

With Jott, you can call a toll-free number, speak the reminder you want sent to youself, tell Jott when to send it and your words will be transcribed into text and sent to your email or to your cellphone as a text message. You can also send reminders to your friends, family or colleagues or anyone you set-up as a contact in your Jott account. A group feature allows you to create distribution lists to send emails or reminders to groups of your contacts simultaneously.

Create and Manage To Do Lists

Another great feature of Jott is the ability to create To-Do lists either by voice or text entry. As with reminders, a simple phone call to the Jott toll-free number makes it possible to create to-do entries on any umber of to-do lists you set-up in your Jott account. You can have a list for personal to-do’s and one for work related tasks or any number of lists you choose.

Jott to a Link

This is my favorite feature.  Jott to a link allows you to send a message to many external web based services such as Google Calendars, Blogger, Twitter and Yahoo to name a few. As with lists and reminders, Jott will convert your voice message into a text post on Twitter or an entry in your Google Calendar. The voice prompts guide you through the process, confirming the link, time information and message details. If your a Twitter user, this feature makes it incredibly easy to post entries when you’re away from your computer.

Jott is free to sign-up and use. Like many “Web 2.0″ services, I wonder how they can possibly make money.  Anyway, it’s free and a great service. I invite your comments regarding your experience with Jott.

Thanks for telling us about Jott. It sounds like a great service. I do wonder how Web 2.0 services make money, but they always seem to somehow.

The only difficulty I seemed to have with Jott, and I could be wrong, was that I started to incur text charges as a result of using the service. Or was I not understanding what I thought to be text charges? Any thoughts from regular Jott users?
